Unspam Technologies, Inc. is a Park City, Utah-based company at the cutting edge of the fight against spam. While it may not seem like it, the problem of determining whether a movie is good or bad is a lot like the problem of determining whether an email messages is spam or not (e.g., if there's a long diatribe about the benefits of Viagra, it's probably nothing you want to see).

Living in Park City, we look forward to Sundance every year and we wanted to take some of our technological expertise and give something back to our community: a way to avoid bad Sundance movies. (As an anti-spam company we were also particularly interested in Sundance based on the amount of junk email they send out, but that's another story.)

Sure we could have volunteered to create a box office website system that actually works without crashing when you try and add tickets to your cart, but instead we decided it would be more interesting to see how well we could apply spam classifying principles to the challenge.
